Awareness Months

National awareness months are dedicated to raising awareness about various crucial topics, from health conditions to social issues. These awareness months can help rally support and share important stories, ultimately encouraging a deeper understanding of the issues that affect our lives.

Awareness months and colors play a pivotal role in uniting communities and inspiring advocacy. Whether it’s acknowledging the challenges of living with a particular health condition or addressing social injustices, an awareness months calendar empowers people to make a difference.

January Awareness Months

National Glaucoma Awareness Month

While there’s no cure for this eye disease, early treatment can help prevent further damage and protect one’s vision, especially for those over age 60.

Cervical Health Awareness Month

Nearly 13,000 women in the US  are diagnosed with cervical cancer annually. The disease is almost entirely preventable with proper vaccination and regular screenings with a PAP smear and HPV testing.

February Awareness Months

Black History Month 

In Canada and the United States, February is dedicated to celebrating and recognizing the rich history, achievements, and contributions of Black individuals and communities. It provides a platform to learn about the profound impact Black Americans and Canadians have had on society and culture.

Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

February is a time to raise awareness about teen dating violence. This month, learn more about trends of violence and how to advocate for awareness.

American Heart Month

March Awareness Months

Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month honors women’s achievements and contributions throughout history. It offers an opportunity to learn about the women who have shaped society and reflect on progress toward gender equality.

National MS Education and Awareness Month

Led by the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, this month aims to raise awareness of MS, empowering those living with MS to make informed healthcare decisions.

Developmental Disability Awareness Month

This March, take some time to raise awareness for the community of people living with developmental disabilities. Different events are organized to promote acceptance and inclusion in nearly every aspect of life, including the workplace.

April Awareness Months

National Arab American Heritage Month 

National Arab American Heritage Month recognizes the culture of Arab Americans. It hopes to raise awareness about the diversity of Arab American communities. By fostering a culture of understanding, this allows all Americans, including Arab Americans, to live together with a sense of belonging and acceptance.

Autism Acceptance Month

Autism Acceptance Month promotes understanding, acceptance, and inclusion of autistic people. It encourages communities and workplaces to respect different needs and perspectives and remove barriers to participation.

Paralyzed Veterans Awareness Month

This April awareness month focuses on the challenges that veterans living with spinal cord injuries face. Rally support for these injured veterans and their families by raising funds for their cause.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Educate your community or workplace this April about ways to prevent sexual violence. Create a safe place for people to share stories and resources about the healing process ahead.

May Awareness Months

Jewish Heritage Month 

Celebrated each May in both the United States and Canada, Jewish Heritage Month acknowledges the achievements of all Jewish Americans and Canadians. This monthly observance hopes to bring understanding and awareness about the diverse heritage of the community.

ALS Awareness Month

Raising awareness about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) helps the general public understand the challenges of living with this neurodegenerative disease.

Mental Health Awareness Month

This month, take some time to learn about different mental health conditions and why having a positive mindset is good for your overall health.

June Awareness Months

Caribbean American Heritage Month 

June is dedicated to celebrating the vibrant culture, history, and contributions of Caribbean Americans. It’s a time to recognize the diverse Caribbean community and their impact on American society, from music and cuisine to politics and art.

Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AANHPI)

This month celebrates the histories, cultures, and contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. It offers an opportunity to learn about these diverse communities and recognize their role in shaping American society.

National Migraine & Headache Awareness Month

Build awareness of how migraines affect those living with them and how to get help.

Pride Month

Celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community, promoting acceptance and equality.

July Awareness Months

National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

Raise awareness for the mental health struggles  faced by minority communities. Make July a month for solidarity and education for those who feel unheard. People are encouraged to share pictures, poems, and videos on social media using #DepthOfMyIdentity.

Disability Pride Month

Celebrate the achievements of people with disabilities, fostering understanding and inclusivity.

Intersectionality Awareness Month

Intersectionality is when someone identifies with two or more marginalized groups whether gender or race. By understanding everyone’s personal experience with identity, we become a more diverse and inclusive world.

National Immunization Awareness Month

This annual monthly observance highlights how important it is to be vaccinated at all ages.

September Awareness Months

Hispanic Heritage Month 

Celebrated from September 15 – October 15 annually, this month-long celebration highlights the culture and history of all Hispanic and Latino Americans. Its starting date celebrates the independence of many different Latin American countries like Honduras and Costa Rica.

National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

Take time to remember the lives lost to suicide for those living with depression. Acknowledge the struggles that individuals, families, and communities face regarding suicide.

National Recovery Month

Focus on supporting individuals on their journey to recovery from substance use disorders and mental health challenges, promoting awareness and access to treatment and recovery resources.

October Awareness Months

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This annual awareness month raises awareness about early detection of the disease. Nearly one in three of all new female cancer cases are breast cancer. There is about a one in eight chance for a woman living in the United States to get it in their lifetime.

Disability Employment Awareness Month

This national campaign helps to spread valuable information about disability employment issues. It also highlights the contributions that those living with disabilities have made to the workforce.

Down Syndrome Awareness Month

Raise awareness about Down Syndrome, a genetic condition that is caused by having an extra chromosome 21. During this month, take time to foster understanding and acceptance of all people, especially those living with the condition.

Global Diversity Awareness Month

This month promotes the differences between us and fosters a culture of understanding and inclusivity. This is a great time to celebrate diversity whether in gender, race, ethnicity, religion, ability, mental health, age, and more.

Hindu Heritage Month

Hindu Heritage Month honors the spiritual tradition and culture of Hinduism in the United States. It’s celebrated during a particularly important month for the religion where festivals like Diwali are held. It is also the birth month of Mahatma Gandhi, a Hindu spiritual leader. It hopes to promote awareness for understanding of the unique Hindu customs and practices they follow.

November Awareness Months

Native American Heritage Month

This November, learn about the beautiful history and culture of Native American people. This month hopes to educate about the many distinct languages, traditions, and challenges that Native Americans have faced throughout history. It hopes to promote ongoing support for the Indigenous People community.

National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month

This November awareness month celebrates the nearly more than 6 million Americans who live with Alzheimer’s and their families and caregivers totaling nearly 15 million caregivers.

National Diabetes Awareness Month

Observed every November, this month focuses on how diabetes impacts millions of Americans every year. Nearly 29 million people live with diabetes and another 8 million are undiagnosed.

December Awareness Months

Universal Human Rights Month

This month encourages people to reflect on fairness, dignity, and equal treatment. It highlights the basic rights every person is entitled to and reminds communities to speak up when those rights are at risk.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) Awareness Month

This month brings attention to Seasonal Affective Disorder, a type of depression linked to shorter daylight hours. It encourages people to learn the signs, support those affected, and consider steps that can help, such as light exposure and talking with a healthcare professional.
