Our March Interfaith Calendar 2024 grants you access to some of the most popular religious holidays, high holy days, and religious festivals celebrated this month. Each month, we will publish a blog that focuses on different events allowing you to learn more about other religions.
Please note that if a holiday begins the evening before, we will mark it with an asterisk (*).
March Interfaith Calendar 2024 Highlights
Baha’i: Baha’i Fast – March 2 – March 20
Known as the Nineteenth Day Fast, this is an important spiritual discipline that focuses on reflection, prayer, and meditation. This fast is seen as a time of purification and renewal for the community.
Eastern & Coptic Orthodox Christian: The Great Lent – March 18
This fasting period spans 40 days to honor the 40 days that Jesus fasted alone in the wilderness. During this season, believers focus on almsgiving and self-reflection to draw closer to God. Many abstain from certain foods, whether dairy, meat, and/or fish.
Judaism – Purim (Feast of Lots) – March 24
Purim is a Jewish religious holiday that celebrates the rescue of Jews in Persia before the plot to destroy them came to fruition. Fasting on the day before honors Esther’s fasting before seeing the king to plead for the lives of these Jews.
Jehovah’s Witnesses: The Memorial of Jesus’ Death – March 24
This day honors the death of Jesus Christ. During this memorial, they gather at local Kingdom Halls to remember the sacrifice of Jesus and partake in eating unleavened bread and consume red wine to represent His body and blood.
Hindu: Holi – March 25
This Festival of Colors is a joyous religious festival celebrated that marks the arrival of spring and in turn, the victory of good over evil. People come together to sing and dance to embrace the spirit of harmony and to foster unity in their communities.
Christian: Easter – March 31
Easter is a major Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which occurred three days after his crucifixion. The date varies each year. The week preceding Easter, known as Holy Week, includes significant days such as Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday, commemorating the events leading up to Jesus’ resurrection.
