June Interfaith Calendar 2024 Highlights
Shavuot* – Jun 12-13
The Festival of Weeks falls 50 days after the second day of Passover. It remembers the giving of the Torah to Moses on Mount Sinai. It is observed with prayer services and by eating dairy foods like blintzes. This holiday holds significant meaning as it symbolizes the connection of the Jewish people and God through divine law.
Ascension Day * – June 13
Celebrate the anniversary of the day that Coptic Orthodox Christians and Eastern Orthodox Christians believe that Jesus ascended to heaven. It is celebrated 40 days after Easter.
The Hajj * – June 15 – 19
This annual pilgrimage to Mecca is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and is mandatory for all Muslims physically and financially able to do so to undertake once in their lives. It is a time of reflection as Muslims across the world gather to celebrate their faith and also those making this journey.
St. Peter and St. Paul Day – June 29
This day remembers the apostles Peter and Paul and the role that they played in the church’s early history. Services to remember these two saints are held today.
